lets talk recession, everybody else is...

Let me fill u in on my current situation. I am done with undergrad and i am aspiring for law school. In the mean time I'm back in d H trying to find an occupation that will 1) support me (and my party habit. jk)financially, and 2) allow me to gain some experience in the legal/political realm. By God's grace it will be back to school next year around this time...THATS THE PLAN.

Now, my job hunt has been interesting to say the least. I have GREAT contacts in high places and I have visited with a number of people that SHOULD be able to find a place for me. I cant tell you how many lame jokes i have told or how many war stories I've heard of how someone has reached there position. All, to no avail. Its not like I'm getting a whole bunch of No's, as if I am not qualified, its juss I keep hearing the same thing... "well ya know, with this recession and all..."

Look, people this recession is very real. All those outside of Healthcare and IT are really suffering. I believe that it cannot be this way forever and will eventually get better, ALOT better (especially with a president that is not afraid to throw money at the problem.lol). Right now, although, its hard for ppl to find good paying jobs, just as it is hard for ppl to hire good workers for their businesses.

Today I attended a job fair in the Galleria in the Westin Hotel. Never really been to one b4, but I wasn't surprised at what I saw. I could not benefit from it as much as others prolly could, juss because of the simple fact that most of the companies represented were in banking and sales... Anyway, the point of the story is that the event was supposed to prove that "Houston is still hiring". Now, i dont know the numbers, but it was said over and over today that Houston has been hit the least by the recession, and that may certainly be the case. Although, I cannot help but wonder if ANYONE form this event after waiting in long lines to meet with a business rep who has seen 100 ppl close if not similar to you, will actually get a call back...

Dont worry, i cooperated... shoot, I'm tryna get paid! lol. But still. i am not expecting anything from it.

Was everybody in that room just in denial? Could those companies REALLY provide a job for everyone? or was it juss another opportunity to show that their business cares... I dunno.

SO... i did some research. Come to find out, that forbes named Houston the number 1 "recession-proof" city followed by San antonio and Dallas, respectively... WELL, SHOW ME THE MONEY!!! lol

good night yall... I think.
