They have pinpointed the origins of the malaria virus that has plagued most of the African continent. They now have conclusive evidence that that the virus was transfered to humans by chimpanzees. They found an older strain of the virus in chimps and are still unclear as to how the transfer happened, but this along with other evidence supports the claim that a transfer, indeed, was made.
What does this do for us? Well, this is a huge discovery that will definitely help in finding ways to eradicate the virus. No claims have been made of making a vaccine from the malaria strain in the chimps blood, like they did with small pox and the infected cows with a different strain.
Malaria kills more than 1million ppl a year.
Now, I am not an expert on the subject, by any means, but this story reminds me a lot of the claims on how AIDS came about... from monkeys! They said the same thing!!! So, either we need to juss wipe out all the chimps so some new virus doesn't show up, or someone is lying!
Man, i dunno... think freely.
This reminds me of a certain comedian who spoke on this very topic... enjoy and be free.

It's all a bunch of bullshit, Malaria comes from the bite of a fly (well originally..says the pre-med student..lol) and they're only saying monkey because they believe that it has to infect a close relative of humans for it to be such a widespread pandemic (that's why they're sooo confused with the swine flu..lol).
