all I need is my radio...hmmm.

My homegurl Liz brought this up...

WHY DOES THE RADIO BLOW!!! (excuse my verbage.lol)

Remember there was a time when the radio was all we had? I remember the "Roll Call" on 97.9. I remember actually listening to the top 8 at 8. I remember recording songs off the radio with my tape recorder. I REMEMBER those days where the radio was not only prevalent, but almost necessary for a normal social life, so to speak.

Im not blaming the current "suckiness" of the radio on the actual radio biz, cuz I understand that it is juss that, a business. YES, the CRAPOLA that they play over and over again until you have subconsciously memorized all their words, is not necessarily GOOD music (pun intended...hint.) but it is the music that, believe it or not, sells, and sells well.

I am juss happy that we live in a time where ppl dont need the radio to be discovered. The internet has blown the music industry wide open and more artists get exposure. My suggesstion to all music lovers is to turn off your radio and hop on the pc and discover a talent. Doesnt matter wut genre, there's juss a different type of satisfaction when you jam to somebody that no one knows! Key step after you find somebody....

Put someone else on... I always do.

be free.

  1. *sigh* MUSIC IS MY LIFE. I remember I used to do what u do..record over my mom's nigerian tapes just to tape 97.9's memorial day mix, or whatever holiday mix. (didn't mind the asswhoopins..lol) I used 2 carry my mini boom box everywhere in the house; to wash dishes, take out the trash, etc..NOW ALL I WANNA DO IS RIP OUT THE RADIO IN MY CAR AND CHUNK IT FAR, FAR AWAY! (seriously) but then again..lol, where am I gonna play my old school cd's? The music that plays now is selling, true, but it depresses me that it's selling. *sigh* again..lol. I'm constantly searching for new flavor, new sounds, new anything to keep me stimulated. I've found sooo many underrated artists that NEED the exposure. People like them keep me goin, cuz music just isn't the "good" shit that it used to be anymore. We need a FREAKIN MUSIC REVIVAL! :)

  3. It does, then everyone hops on and it all spins out of control. Then being forced to supply what the majority wants, the artist has to change their music style to fit those demands..it sucks, but like you said, that's the business; SHOW-BUSINESS. lol

And I didn't even listen 2 drake when no one knew him..it's still hard for me 2 see the "jimmy" from degrassi as a rapper with street cred..lol
